The beginning of the New Year 2010 witnessed CDD Society successfully completing yet another training programme on “Decentralised Wastewater Treatment Systems (DEWATS) Project Management”. The Training was organised in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Ltd. (RGRHCL) and Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA) during 6th to 8th January 2010 at Hotel Evoma, Bangalore. The Training was designed to provide managers and decision makers with skill sets required for successful planning, implementation and management of DEWATS and Community Based Sanitation (CBS) systems.
CDD Society contends that rapid urbanisation in Indian cities has created a shortfall in the provision of infrastructure and services leading to a deteriorating environment. The centralised systems are becoming unmanageable for local authorities. Therefore, decentralised basic needs services (DBNS) could complement conventional centralised systems for improving delivery of services to people. Hence, CDD is concentrating on building capacities of service providers who could bridge the large gap between demand and supply of BNS.
A total of 7 Project Managers from different sectors across India and Nepal were trained through interactive sessions, field visits, analysis of case studies and hands-on training by professionals from CDD Society, BORDA and related organisations representing a balance of academicians and practitioners.
Mr. Stanzin Tsephel, Executive Coordinator, CDD Society attended the valedictory function of the training programme. The training ended with the distribution of certificates of participation.
