BORDA Partner - CDD Society
CDD network has a new member; The Vigyan Vijay Foundation joined the network formally on 14 December 2009. There is a wide recognition within the CDD network that the Foundation can play a significant role in environmental up-gradation, especially in the field of water conservation, waste management and environmental awareness. For CDD, the major source of strength of Vigyan Vijay Foundation comes from their experience in appropriate technologies for sustainable development. “We are already online in decentralised initiatives and implementing green technologies for many years”, says Ajit Seshadri, Founder and Head of the Delhi based NGO.
From a practical point of view, the new partner has a number of distinct features that build a solid foundation for effective collaboration with the network in disseminating Decentralised Basic Needs Services (DBNS).Its strength lies in the design and implementation of DEWATS and its Operation & Maintenance (O&M). Mr. Seshadri comments: “There is a general lethargy in India to maintain equipments. We guide and equip people with the necessary skills so that the wastewater plants are maintained. We also have experienced constructors on-board who know the implementation well”. The Vigyan Vijay Foundation sees CDD network as a platform and tool for wider propagation and dissemination. “The projects speak for themselves and need to be showcased in a good way”, says Mr Seshadri. Issues related to sanitation are many, single organisations have limited resources and capacities. Therefore, the dissemination approach through a network like CDD can be more focused, better facilitated and labour can be divided among experts. Mr. Ajit Seshadri has a passion for environment, right from his junior engineering days. His involvement in the network is highly appreciated and will be a driving force.
The Vigyan Vijay Foundation was established as a Society in 2001 with a vision to help communities to evolve as socially aware, economically self-reliant and morally responsible units, thus enabling a self-actualised society. The organisation is keenly working in the field of appropriate technology promotion for sustainable development. Besides their interventions in life skills, education, information technology and eco-friendly work places, they also work in the area of environmental up-gradation, specifically waste water recycling, water conservation, waste management, pollution control and sanitation. www.vigyanvijay.org |
