The Centre for Environmental Studies, Anna University, in cooperation with BORDA, had built a decentralised wastewater treatment system (DEWATS) on its campus in 2001 as a field research unit. Since then, this unit had been used by the students of CES and other related departments of the University, for conducting research projects on treatment efficiency of a DEWATS unit. However, in recent years the unit was not being used by the students and had, therefore, run into a state of disrepair. In order to renew the research objectives, BORDA and CDD Society along with CES, Anna University, took up the initiative to renovate the DEWATS unit and restart the research activites. This Project was initiated in February 2008.
